Contribution of the Trust Fund to sustainable development praised at the UN meeting
Speaking at the ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin highlighted the contribution of the Russia-UNDP Trust Fund to achieving sustainable development goals.
The total amount of international assistance provided by Russia through the Trust Fund to date has amounted to some $50 million.
Russia’s partnership with the United Nations Development Programme through the Trust Fund is a positive example of “unbiased and depoliticized” cooperation of countries with the UN system and “allows [...] sharing best practices and expertise in in the area of development with partner countries”, the diplomat mentioned.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), being one of the main bodies of the United Nations, is a central forum for discussing international economic and social problems and formulating policy recommendations for UN member states and the UN system as a whole.
