New standards on energy efficiency in EAEU Member States were discussed in New York

В Нью-Йорке обсудили новые стандарты энергоэффективности в  государствах-членах ЕАЭС

On July 15, 2019 the UN headquarters in New York hosted the panel discussion 'Investing in a Green Economy: Energy Efficiency in the Context of SDG 13' in the framework of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the ECOSOC.

The main focus of the discussion was the new energy efficiency standards that are widely implemented and used in the EAEU Member States. The topic of creating new financial mechanisms — instruments for financing energy efficient practices was also touched upon.

The UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, Dmitry Maryasin noted that along with the GEF and the Green Climate Fund, the UNDP is one of the key partners of Armenia and other countries in the region which helps to promote energy efficiency. There are 3 projects in this area currently implemented in the country, one of which (Standards and normative regulation for promoting energy efficiency in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan)) is financed by the Russia-UNDP Development Trust Fund.

The participants emphasized the key role of the Eurasian Economic Union as an integration platform, which contributes to supporting reforms, shaping energy efficiency regulation policies and facilitating the transfer of experience and technology between Member States.

The event was attended by Tigran Avinyan, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mirjana Spolyarich Egger, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, Tatyana Valovaya, Former Member of the Board (Minister) for UNECE Integration and Macroeconomics, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the UN, as well as the Permanent Representatives of the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Russian Federation to the UN.
