Russian companies’ synergy supports development of public spaces in Yerevan
The Russian consulting company Strelka KB started to provide urban planning support to Armenia in transforming of Yerevan’s Circular Garden urban environment at the beginning of 2020. Experts conducted survey among Facebook users via a chatbot called Tigran developed specifically as a rapid response to COVID-19 outbreak.
To make the support to Yerevan’s Circular Garden more comprehensive and improve the road infrastructure around the public space, they attracted analysts of the largest Russian telecommunication company – Yandex, a technology company that builds intelligent products and services powered by machine learning.
The analysts of Yandex.Taxi, an online ride-sharing service, conducted research of the road traffic in the streets around Circular Garden area in Yerevan, as well as the most popular driving routes in the neighborhood and analyzed how traffic speeds in specific segments change during the day on business days and weekends throughout different seasons of the year. The research is based on an aggregated, anonymized data.
The results of the research will be used by Strelka KB to build a traffic model and create recommendations on how to develop the road infrastructure around the Circular Garden to provide safer, smarter and more convenient vehicle and pedestrian movement which will improve lives of the surrounding population estimated around 200,000 people.
