Russian expert contributes to area-based development in Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz Republic has huge capacity in area-based and tourism development especially when it comes to the south of the country, where Osh city, one of the most ancient cities in Central Asia is located. The potential can be harnessed through area-based development, creative economy, territorial marketing, and crowdsourcing. As these are relatively new concepts, Russian expertise was requested to support the efforts of UNDP Accelerator Lab in the Republic in sharing knowledge on area-based development with the focus on tourism, territorial marketing, and creative economy in the South of Kyrgyzstan.
The Russian expert, CEO of the Center for Territorial Marketing, conducted a series of trainings for local students and young tourism specialists on 18-22 November 2021. The training sessions covered territorial marketing, innovative approaches to area-based development and creative economy. The students were able not only to gain knowledge on how to create tourism products, develop tourist strategies and work with opinion leaders and communities for development of tourism potential, but also they had an opportunity to present their ideas and tourist projects for evaluation and expert’s opinion and advice.
Trainings attracted 30 students who were selected on a competitive basis and sparked positive feedback on the quality of educational sessions.
The assignment of the Russian expert will contribute to larger efforts of UNDP Accelerator Lab in Kyrgyz Republic in leveraging learning to improve the livelihoods of people in the country.
The work of the Russian expert was implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Building in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
