Russian expert in energy efficiency contributes to technological modernization of Kyrgyz municipalities
Kyrgyzstan is facing serious challenges in the energy sector. The electricity deficit in the country has been a long-standing issue, linked to limited domestic resources, outdated infrastructure, and dependence on imported fossil fuels. Thus, the street lighting system plays a key role in ensuring sustainable development in both urban and rural areas of Kyrgyzstan
A Russian expert in energy efficiency conducted a series of consultations with representatives from the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic and officials from 20 municipalities. During the discussions, strategies for implementing smart technologies in street lighting were considered.
As a result of the consultations, the expert prepared a comprehensive study and recommendations regarding the potential and opportunities for technological modernization in Kyrgyz municipalities. The recommendations cover a wide range of topics, including technological solutions for automating street lighting management systems and business models for urban lighting in small and medium-sized cities.
The research results provided important insights into the design and financing mechanisms for smart street lighting, as well as the development of a strategy to promote energy efficiency and smart city development in Kyrgyzstan. The expert made significant contributions to shaping future urban infrastructure modernization projects across 20 municipalities in Kyrgyzstan, aiming to reduce budget expenditures, ensure urban safety, and enhance mobility for vulnerable population groups. Transition to a new energy supply model will also contribute to reducing harmful emissions and improving the ecology of cities.
The work of the Russian expert was implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Development in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
