Russian expert supported the Municipality of Chișinău in improving data collection on urban mobility
As cities grow and develop, new challenges arise that require a different way of understanding and solving urban problems. One of the main issues related to urban development of Chișinău is urban mobility, i.e. the lack of adequate public transport capacities despite a growing population in the greater city area, resulting in substantial uncoordinated urban expansion and recurrent traffic jams.
Government of Moldova and the Municipality of Chișinău wishes to establish a data platform for engaging relevant stakeholders in the use of new evidence to generate insights and understand development patterns in Chisinau.
Russian expert contributed to the development of Chisnau data platform by providing support to local data engineers and urban planners. The expert analyzed population distribution data, transit data and mobility data and developed visualization and optimization solutions in the framework of the Platform. The expert also provided recommendations to improve data collection: use of electronic devices to estimate passenger flow, launch of an open data portal for enabling professional community discussion on datasets, which will help to make more balanced and transparent decisions.
The assignment of the Russian expert was carried out under the 'Knowledge Management and Capacity Building in UNDP-Russia Partnership' project.
