Russian delegation monitors progress of Russia-funded projects in Uzbekistan

A monitoring mission by the representatives of the Steering Committee of the Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development has concluded in Uzbekistan. Representatives from Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Finance, and Permanent Mission to the UN assessed a range of projects financed by the Russian Federation.

The delegation visited the Fergana Valley to evaluate the sustainability of results of a project supporting post-pandemic economic recovery. The team toured successfully operating small businesses—including a pottery workshop, a confectionery, and a sewing cooperative—that received project support. These small enterprises continue to thrive and create local jobs following the project's completion in mid-2024 and demonstrating tangible economic impact.

In Tashkent, the mission held working meetings with officials from relevant Uzbek ministries and venture funds to discuss avenues for future bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The delegation also reviewed the implementation of an ongoing project focused on expanding digital entrepreneurship opportunities for youth.

An important component of the mission was a field visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan to assess the results of the project enhancing community resilience in the Aral Sea region. The delegates observed initiatives in climate adaptation, livelihood diversification, and social infrastructure development. This provided a firsthand view of how Russia-funded support is helping vulnerable communities in Central Asia build resilience against environmental and economic challenges.
