Yerevan does not have a comprehensive analysis on the economic impact of public spaces; thus the Municipality currently values the green urban areas mainly as places that improve citizen health and well-being. But green urban areas not only contribute to the physical activity of all ages, but also can serve as a catalyst to the overall economy of the area by influencing real estate market. Recent discussions with the city council members show that there is an interest in the economic evaluation of green urban areas aimed at creating new management models for those areas in the city.

Current citizen-centric developments in Moscow public spaces are considered valuable for Yerevan’s development. The professor of the Higher School of Economics’ Faculty of Urban and Regional Development and the Head of the Centre for Urban Planning Competencies of RANEPA conducted economic impact analysis of Yerevan’s green urban areas and provided recommendations on tools, mechanisms and approaches to increase the economic impact of green urban areas and squares. Based on the research and recommendations Russian experts delivered a workshop for staff of Municipality of Yerevan.

The work of Russian experts will contribute to the development of Yerevan's green areas, flourish their economic potential and boost the development of infrastructure and services linked to green urban areas, which will eventually improve the quality of the urban environment in the implementation of the sustainable development agenda in Yerevan.

The work of the Russian expert is implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Building in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
