Russian experts support aquaculture development in Guinea
On 22 December 2020, UNDP entered into a partnership agreement with Astrakhan State Technical University to send Russian experts to support the development of sustainable aquaculture in regions of Guinea to ensure food security and create new jobs for women and youth.
Under the agreement, Russian experts are engaged in the creation of an adapted hatchery model to replenish fishing banks in the country's water bodies with indigenous fish species and provide distance learning courses on aquaculture breeding and fish-feed production.
On 12 June 2021, experts from Astrakhan State Technical University (ASTU) traveled to Conakry to support a aquaculture development in Upper and Middle Guinea. The project is implemented jointly with the National Aquaculture Agency of Guinea with the technical and financial support of the Russian Federation, Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
As part of their visit to Guinea, the Russian experts met with the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Guinea, Boureima Younoussa, the Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Resources, Frederic Lua, and the Director-General of the National Aquaculture Agency of Guinea.
