Russia will provide $ 10 million for UNDP projects to support youth for sustainable development in partner countries

Россия выделила 10 млн долл. на проекты ПРООН по поддержке молодежи в интересах устойчивого развития в странах-партнерах
25 December 2017

On December 22, 2017, the Government of the Russian Federation issued a decision to allocate $10 million in 2017-2019 for projects to promote the implementation of socio-economic opportunities for young people within the framework of the Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for development.

Opportunities provided to youth will define the future of most developing countries. Today’s generation of young people is close to 1.8 billion – more than at any other time in history. Approximately 90% of them live in developing countries. More than 40% of young people in the world either do not work or work, but live below the poverty line.

The "Youth Window" of the Trust Fund will support projects in the partner countries that offer systemic development solutions to the youth as a target audience and agents of sustainable development in the following priority areas:

  • Supporting youth employment and harnessing the youth innovation potential;
  • Promoting decent work, income-generating opportunities and improved wellbeing for rural youth;
  • Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for young people;
  • Ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for young people;
  • Development of the young people’s digital skills and creation of the job opportunities for youth in the digital economy;
  • Supporting effective integration of volunteerism within national frameworks, enabling better engagement of young people in development processes.

Russian expertise will be widely used during projects’ implementation and cooperation with Russian youth related projects is envisaged.
