Russia contributes to strengthening Kyrgyzstan’s technical capacity for lighting product testing

The regional TFD project on Knowledge management has supported Kyrgyzstan in strengthening technical capacities for lighting product testing and quality assurance. The Russian expert from the State Regional Center for Standardization, Metrology and Testing in Nizhny Novgorod Region completed a comprehensive technical assessment of the Photometric Laboratory under the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy and Commerce, which had been launched in 2019 with the financial support of the Russian Federation.

The consultant verified the equipment installation conditions, as well as developed and implemented specialized software tools for processing and analyzing photometric data. This led to improved measurement accuracy, reduced processing time for results, and increased the laboratory’s potential throughput to several dozen samples per month. The expert’s work included the development of specialized test report templates for diverse lighting categories – from street luminaires to industrial floodlights – setting the stage for the laboratory to function as a national center of competence. By enabling in-country verification of lighting products, this initiative accelerates the implementation of national energy efficiency programs.

To ensure the sustainability of the results, the expert conducted specialized training for laboratory staff. The training program included mastering modern testing methodologies regulated by current standards.

“Thanks to this support, we have not only configured the equipment but also built the methodological foundation of a fully functioning testing system,” said the Director of the Center for Standardization and Metrology of the Kyrgyz Republic, Aibek Musaev.

The work of the Russian expert is implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Development in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
