Russia supports the Pacific countries to withstand natural disasters
On 10 June 2021 the final Board meeting of the regional project “Disaster Resilience for Pacific SIDS” took place with the presentation of the achieved results.
The project with funding of US$ 7.5 million has been the largest in UNDR-Russia Trust for Development Portfolio. It was launched in 2016 and covered 14 small island developing states and 1 territory in the Pacific Region, including Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, etc. with over 325,000 direct beneficiaries.
The region is characterized by an increased number of geo-physical and climate related hazards.
