Revitalization of the public spaces in Kyrgyzstan
Two Russian experts contributed to the revitalization of the public spaces around the Turgunbai Sadykov Osh Regional Museum of Fine Arts in Kyrgyzstan. Their assignments were implemented in the framework of the Open Osh initiative, which aims to promote MSMEs, foster social cohesion, and improve the physical environment in Osh city.
The experts conducted a series of seminars with representatives from the Osh Regional Department of Urban Planning and Architecture, as well as with staff from the T. Sadykov Museum of Fine Arts, where they presented preliminary design plans for the revitalization of key public spaces in Osh and cost estimates for the work. Representatives of civil society, including designers, artists, marketers, students, and pensioners, also took part in the seminar. The seminar participants were presented with examples of park solutions and elements of an inclusive urban environment, in particular, accessible pathways for people with disabilities. The developed design plans include the creation of sports and playgrounds, mini amphitheatres, ayvans, as well as a space for short-term exhibitions.
The Russian experts also presented a methodology for organizing public participation in the implementation of comprehensive urban environment improvement projects. By introducing design methodologies based on considering the interests and needs of local communities, the experts made a significant contribution to promoting inclusive urban development practices in Kyrgyzstan and strengthening interaction between citizens and municipal authorities.
The revitalization plans and recommendations developed by the experts provide an understanding of the mechanisms for designing and financing public spaces. The implementation of the proposed projects will contribute to the development of a comfortable and safe urban environment.
The work of the Russian experts was implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Development in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
