UNDP publishes Human Development Report 2019

On 10 December 2019, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) published a new Human Development Report, which this year focuses on inequalities and measures to address them.
The Report “Beyond income, beyond averages, beyond today: Inequalities in human development in the 21st century” notes that, while the gap in basic living standards for millions of people is narrowing, the need for prosperity is evolving, resulting in new forms of inequality - in education, as well as in technology and climate change - two major shifts that, according to the report, if not controlled, could trigger a "significant new gap" in society on a scale that is not visible.
The authors of the Report argue that in order to successfully combat new forms of inequality, it is necessary to transform existing development policies: increase investment in early childhood and lifelong learning; promote gender equality, including economic opportunities; and maintain productivity.
