The Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development Project "Climate Box" has gained special interest of the organizers of the "3rd Climate Forum of Cities", which was held in Moscow on September 4 and 5.

A separate session and two special trainings for teachers and methodologists within the framework of the Forum were dedicated to climate education and the contribution of the “Climate Box” to raising a new generation of responsible citizens in eight CIS countries. The session featured presentations by representatives of the WWF, the Faculty of Economics of the Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), UNESCO, the regional office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), etc.

The “Climate Box” was developed in 2014-2015 by UNDP in the Russian Federation with the support of Coca-Cola Co., the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and was successfully used in a few schools in Moscow and Sochi. In 2017, a regional TFD Project was approved dealing with raising awareness of climate change issues among schoolchildren from the CIS countries based on the “Climate Box”.

Currently, its adapted and translated versions are piloted in schools in Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. More than 50,000 schoolchildren and 2,000 teachers in these countries have already got acquainted with the toolkit and implemented local school projects on climate change adaptation and energy efficiency. The TFD Project supported a series of regional conferences on climate change education and the first contest of school projects in the CIS countries. Methodologists and schoolchildren from these countries shared their experiences in using the toolkit in educational process and in practical application of the gained knowledge. Further plans include the promotion of the “Climate Box” to the global level, in particular, to Latin America.

The Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development (TFD) Project "Climate Box" is a contribution to the promotion of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change goals through climate education and youth enlightenment.
