Russian Federation delegation reviews project results in Tajikistan
From 12 to 15 October 2026, representatives of the Steering Committee of the Russia–UNDP Trust Fund for Development visited Tajikistan. Officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development, and Ministry of Finance assessed the progress and sustainability of results of projects funded by the Russian Federation.
The participants visited Dushanbe and major cities in the Sughd Region, where they met with local government partners, entrepreneurs, and students. Since 2014, the Russian Federation, through its partnership with UNDP, has provided nearly $20 million to support integrated territorial development, education, employment, healthcare, and climate resilience in Tajikistan.
As part of the visit, the delegation met with the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Nearly ten years ago, heavy machinery and search-and-rescue equipment, including GAZ and URAL vehicles, were transferred to the rescuers. Committee representatives noted that Russian machinery has proven to be the most reliable in harsh weather conditions and is easily repaired by local teams. According to their assessment, this equipment has already helped save at least a thousand lives during mudflows and other emergencies.
In the Ayni District, the participants visited a vocational technical lyceum, where the dormitory underwent a major renovation in 2017. Previously, the building had been unused for more than 20 years, limiting girls' access to education. Since then, the dormitory has provided safe accommodation for 40 girls from remote villages in the Zeravshan Valley, and thanks to the renovation, almost 1,000 girls have been able to study at the lyceum.
In Khujand, the delegation reviewed the work of the Ambulance Dispatch Center at Central Hospital No. 1, equipped with IT infrastructure and a backup generator as part of the project for socio-economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. The center received an automated dispatch system and real-time vehicle tracking, enabling remote consultations and online training for medical staff.
At the Technopark of Khujand State University, the delegation was shown the newly opened artificial intelligence laboratory, equipped with modern technology, an interactive whiteboard, and computers. Thanks to the new laboratory, the university was able to launch a new specialization in artificial intelligence and begin admitting students for the 2026–2027 academic year. Students presented their AI projects related to the application of technology in healthcare.
During the visit, the participants also visited several entrepreneurial initiatives supported under the youth, including a sewing workshop, a woodworking workshop, and a fruit processing enterprise.
Representatives of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Khujand took part in the mission.
