Improving transportation statistics in Turkmenistan
In 2024, UNDP and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan initiated a joint project, which is aimed at improving the quality of data on the volume of passenger and freight traffic. As part of this project, the Russian expert was engaged to provide recommendations and deliver capacity building training sessions for the employees of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan.
The expert prepared methodologies, conducted experimental calculations, and organized round tables on statistics related to passenger and cargo transportation in Ashgabat. During the event, the work plan for conducting a sample survey on freight and passenger transportation was presented.
“This roundtable will help national specialists involved in the survey to better understand the data gathering and processing procedure, ensuring the quality of the collected information and final data”, - emphasized the expert.
The employees of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan enhanced their capacity to generate high-quality, gender-responsive data and better understand passenger and freight traffic patterns. Proposed solutions will help the government to formulate effective transportation policies, and plan infrastructure development that meets actual demand.
The work of the Russian expert was implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Development in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
