United Nations Office in the Russian Federation Cookie Policy
1. General Provisions
These terms of the United Nations Office in the Russian Federation regarding the use of cookies (hereinafter – the Terms, the Office respectively) define the basis for the Office’s use of cookies on the Office’s website (hereinafter – the Site).
Upon the first visit to the Site, the Site user (hereinafter – the User) will be informed about the use of cookies and the corresponding options for their use.
The User grants consent to the Office for the processing of cookies for the analysis of usage, measurement, and improvement of the performance of the Office’s Site. Consent is effective from the moment it is provided and for the entire period of the User’s use of the Site.
In case of refusal to process cookies, the User must stop using the Site or disable the use of cookies in their browser settings; however, some Site functions may become unavailable.
The Office reserves the right to unilaterally make changes to these Terms by updating the Site page.
The User should periodically review the Site page to ensure that they are satisfied with any possible changes.
2. Definition and Types of Cookies
Cookies are files or pieces of information that can be stored on the User’s computer (or other internet-enabled devices, such as a smartphone or tablet) when visiting the Site. This type of file can store various information, such as browser type, operating system used, language settings, or other personal page settings, data on Site usage, order information, or login data.
There may also be other technologies with a similar principle of operation to cookies that store data in the User’s browser or on the device. While the User may not be able to opt out of these tracking technologies through browser settings, such technologies generally only work in conjunction with cookies. Accordingly, opting out of cookies in the browser will also disable these technologies in most cases. All such technologies are hereinafter collectively referred to as cookies.
Cookies are used for:• Customizing the content of Site pages according to the User’s preferences, as well as for optimizing the Site. In particular, these files allow recognizing the User’s device and, consequently, displaying a Site page intended for the User’s individual needs.
• Generating statistics using the Yandex.Metrica service, which helps understand how Users interact with the Site, enabling improvements to its structure and content.
• Maintaining the User’s session (after logging in), so that Users do not have to re-enter their login and password on each page.
Thus, cookies do not harm the User’s device and allow the Office to provide the User with faster and better navigation (their purpose can vary from authentication to storing user configuration information for access to this server, etc.) on the Site pages.
Two different types of cookies are used on the Site: “session cookies” and “persistent cookies.”
Session cookies are files that are stored on the User’s device until they log out of the Site or disable their software (web browser).
Persistent cookies are stored on the User’s device for the duration specified in the cookie parameters or until they are deleted by the User.
3. List of Cookies Used by the Site During Operation
• Strictly Necessary Cookies Without these cookies, the proper functioning of the Site is impossible. These files are responsible for storing the User’s authorization data (username and password) required to access certain sections of the Site (e.g., the User’s personal account). Among other things, they allow the Office to identify the User’s hardware and software, including browser type.
• Performance Cookies Some cookies help developers evaluate the effectiveness of the Site’s performance, optimize its design, and generally make it more user-friendly and modern. They also collect statistics on visits to various Site pages and analyze how users navigate to pages.
• Functional Cookies These cookies allow the User’s selected settings to be remembered, which will be automatically activated during their subsequent visits to the Site.
• Tracking and Personalization Cookies This type of cookie allows the Office to obtain information about Users’ interests and needs. The use of such cookies helps create the most relevant content. These cookies can determine the resource from which the User navigated to the Site, the browser they use, as well as the nature of the data downloaded from the Site. This information is collected anonymously by third-party web service providers.
4. Management of Cookie Transmission and Reception
In many cases, web browsing software (web browser) allows cookies to be stored on the User’s device by default. The User can make changes to cookie settings at any time. These settings can be modified in the web browser settings. Detailed information about the possibility and methods of transmitting cookies is available in the software (web browser) settings.
