Seven new projects to help boost climate action

The Russia-UNDP Trust Fund has approved seven projects, worth a total of US$ 6.7 million, to support UNDP climate efforts in more than a dozen countries in Europe and the CIS, Africa and the Caribbean.
The funds will address a broad spectrum of efforts, from helping countries access climate finance or respond to extreme weather events, to mobilizing citizens so they can reduce their carbon footprint.
One regional project will support countries as they access climate finance, helping them design projects for the Green Climate Fund and other international sources of financing.
The initiative will support Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
The new funding will also assist Cuba in fighting droughts and Zimbabwe with the preparation of its low carbon strategy.
The Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development focuses on the CIS region provides assistance to low income and lower middle income countries in priority areas such as sustainable development, poverty reduction and disaster risk reduction.
In total, since 2010, Russia has allocated over $60 million towards UNDP projects in the region, with a portion allocated to UNDP’s work in the context of humanitarian appeals in countries such as Syria, the Philippines, Cuba and Vanuatu.
