Russian expert introduces bus lanes in Chisinau
Moldova wishes to improve safety and security on roads and ensure that all citizens have diverse transport options which enable access to key destinations and services. For this purpose, Moldovan officials develop Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) which is piloted in Chisinau municipality.
Russian expert in urban mobility and dedicated bus lanes provided methodological support including technical supervision in planning and piloting establishment of the dedicated public bus lanes in Chisinau.
As a result of the activities, new road surface marking was introduced on several streets of Chisinau municipality. The new marking shows that the part of the road is now reserved for public transport and cyclists. The Deputy Mayor of Chisinau Victor Chironda welcomed the novelties and outlined a series of rules for drivers. According to him, parking or stopping on the dedicated lane is forbidden, while crossing to turn right would be allowed, even if the lane is delimited by a continuous line.
The changes brought by the Russian expert contribute to enhancing the quality of the urban environment and will improve safety and security for citizens.
The work of the Russian expert is implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Building in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
