Turkmenistan aims to support agricultural communities in velayats of the country by improving institutional and legal mechanisms for the effective use of water and land resources, including the introduction of climate adaptation measures through Institutional changes. To achieve this goal the involvement of highly qualified specialists in legal aspects is required.

The Professor of the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy introduced Russian and international approaches to creating agro-ecological zones with the use of digital technologies during the webinar on ‘The importance of modeling agroecological zones (AEZ) for the optimal placement of crops by regions of the country’ held on 12 November 2021 where representatives of the scientific community, employees of agricultural universities, representatives of the velayat and etrab khyakimliks and specialists of interested sectoral ministries and entities of Turkmenistan were present. The participants were able to discuss the possibilities of AEZ modeling at the national level, revision of current regulations and assess the existing capacity of stakeholders.

The Russian expert continues to support Turkmenistan and prepares a Roadmap for modeling of the AEZ considering the existing institutional capacity in the country. The work on the agro-ecological models will help formulate long-term public investment policy in the agricultural and water sectors to cope with future climate change risks in Turkmenistan.

The work of the Russian expert was implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation within the framework of the project "Knowledge Management and Capacity Building in the UNDP-Russia Partnership".
