Russia supports Uzbekistan in WTO accession
The Government of Uzbekistan puts great effort to develop country’s trade and exports, which are perceived as key factors for structural transformations and modernization of national economy. Diversification of exports and extended list of export destination countries reduce the vulnerability of national economy to external shocks and lead to economic sustainability, therefore, country’s accession to WTO is considered among priorities for Uzbekistan’s development policies.
To strengthen the capacity of the Negotiating Group on Uzbekistan’s Accession to WTO experts from the Russian “Center of Expertise on WTO Issues” and specialists from the Higher School of Economics (Moscow) in partnership with UNDP Country Office organized a series of seminars and trainings. The two-week on-line event brough together over 40 participants from key ministries and institutions. The curriculum included the study of key WTO agreements with underlying obligations and law enforcement requirements, review of WTO norms for various exports, case studies from international and Russian practices. The acquired knowledge and practical skills will be used by the participants in conducting bilateral and multilateral negotiations with the WTO members, as well as in harmonizing national legislation with the WTO rules and regulations.
The series of seminars and trainings were organized within the framework of UNDP “Aid for Trade in Uzbekistan” Project implemented with financial support from the Russian Federation.
