UNDP took part in the Eurasian Development Bank conference
The XIV Annual International Conference "Eurasian Economic Integration" organized by the Eurasian Development Bank was held in Moscow on 29 November 2019.
Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in the Republic of Armenia Dmitry Maryasin participated at the plenary session and talked about advanced development and integration instruments in the Eurasian space. He spoke about the joint projects of the UNDP Office in Armenia and the Eurasian Development Bank. He also stressed the importance of cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Hungary Mihaiya Varga spoke at the event on Hungary's plans to start negotiations with the Eurasian Development Bank on joining the organization. According to him, this step will contribute to the rapprochement of Budapest with the countries of the Eurasian Union and at the same time is in the economic interests of the Central and Eastern European countries. A similar statement on the launch of the negotiations concerning Moldova's accession to the Eurasian Development Bank was made by the President's advisor Elena Gorelova, who said that Moldova actively participates in the EEU as an observer and is interested in taking part in the development programmes.
The Eurasian Development Bank was established by an interstate agreement signed on 12 January 2006 by the authorized representatives of Kazakhstan and Russia. The Bank is an integration financial institution of the Eurasian Economic Union. The conference of the Eurasian Development Bank is held annually and involves heads and staff of ministries and departments, national companies, the Eurasian Economic Commission, representatives of international financial organizations, scientific and business circles of the states. The participants discuss relevant issues of Eurasian integration, the special role of multilateral development banks in the implementation of infrastructure projects, the formation of a common Eurasian humanitarian space and other topics.
